First, I read the first couple of pages about the arrival of Captain Cook and a huge problem between the British and the Maori.
For five hundred years, Maori had Aotearoa to themselves. Then in 1760, Captain Cook arrived.
In the 1790s, Pakeha came to hunt seals and whales, missionaries from England, and later France, followed to spread Christionity, and traders also arrived to load their ships with timber and flax to sell overseas.
By 1830, several hundred Pakeha, most of them British, were living in what they called New Zealand
