Today Zana from the SLJ team commented on my Insect art blog post.

Zana said Kia Ora Hector,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the Summer Learning Journey.

I thought the activity was very exciting as I love seeing everyone's creative and unique designs! Your insect looks awesome and looks just like a butterfly, you added the antennas, body and the big beautiful wings. The rocks you add to the wings look like the little spots you see on monarch butterflies.

I would like to know how you found all the materials for your insect and if your butterfly has a name?

Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of your posts over the summer.
Ngā mihi nui,
Zana Yates

I said Talofa Lava Zana

I found these materials during lunch and I wanted to make a butterfly. I had to use pebbles to hang the leaves on the paper

Today Zana from the SLJ team commented on my Kowhaiwhai patern blog post.

Zana said Kia Ora Hector,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the Summer Learning Journey.

I thought this activity was very interesting as it teaches you about Tānerore who you are able to see often on these hot summer days and about the infamous kowhaiwhai pattern seen throughout Māori culture.

Your Kowhaiwhai pattern looks unique and awesome and the colors you used are very accurate to that seen in other Kowhaiwhai patterns. It is great that you used google drawing, I can imagine it was quite fun to use all the different shapes and tools to create this.

I would like to know if you have seen the Kowhaiwhai patterns before and if so when? I know I have seen them in a museum and I also made them at school to hang on the roof beams.

Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of your posts over the summer.

Ngā mihi nui,
Zana Yates

I don't know what I am repeating in my Kowhaiwhai patern but I am trying to repeat a wave.

Today Elle from the SLJ team commented on my optical illiusion blog post.

Elle said Talofa lava Hector, this is Elle from the Summer Learning Journey team.

Well done and thank you for sharing your optical illusion!

I really like that you have put a side-by-side comparison, with your inspiration and your recreation! I like that you’ve chosen a different colour for your optical illusion, because it adds your own artistic flair and transforms it into something new. Why did you choose cyan? I think it is a very cool colour!

You chose a very neat illusion to recreate; I think it’s cool that everything overlaps to trick your eye and I agree, it does look like there are two cubes in it!

Maybe for next time, you could add labels to each picture, so we can clearly see which optical illusion is yours and which is the one that inspired you.

Keep it up and well done for being so active in the Summer Learning Journey!

Ngā mihi,
Elle (SLJ)

Then I said Talofa Lava Elle

Thanks for the comment. I chose cyan because I think it suits the colour for my optical illusion.

I chose this optical illusion because I liked that it had two cubes and I think my favourite shape is a cube.

Ka Kite Ano Elle! Hope you have a great summer!

Hector

Today I commented Bella's blog post. The blog post was the activity called "Which doesn't belong" this activity was from the summer learning journey and I did that activity.

I said Talofa Lava Bella, I see that you've done another activity and created your own slide. I liked going through your slide and I liked that you've figured out what doesn't belong. Do you think that you can make another creation about what doesn't belong?

Bella said Hello Hector! It's great to know that you're engaging with others and motivating them with positive feedback.

Yes, I think I could create another challenge. The next challenge I make would probably be about camp, which what I am most excited for next year!

Have you done this activity? For the last slide, what did you create?

Ka kite ano!

Rise Up | SLJ

Today I made my own Chorus. The Chorus was about the coronavirus. I got the idea from Mangere Collage and they made a song called "Rise up" which was the example the SLJ team had set up.

I used the sky tower photo as my background and I think my Chorus is pretty good, well it looks like a rap to me because it has rhymes.

Which doesn't belong

Today I did a google slide about which doesn't belong. Which doesen't belong is to try and find out the differences by looking at four images.

I had to figure out nine differenes and write my responds in a text box. At the bottom is the last slide of the task. The last slide was to make my own which doesn't belong slide. I did the slide about christmas cookies.

Haiku Poem | SLJ

Today I did a Haiku Poem. In a Haiku Poem there are three lines. The first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third line has five syllables.

The Haiku Poem I wrote was Looking for sunshine which has five syllables. The man whistles on the chair whcih has seven syllables. So my day begins which has five syllables.

Looking for sunshine, the man whistles on the chair, so my day begins.

Optical Illusion | SLJ

Today I did a teaser task called "Optical Illusion." A optical illusion can trick your mind and in the optical illusion is a hidden shape you can't see.

First I had to pick a shape to make it into a optical illusion. I could draw the optical illusion or trace it on a DLO using the polyline tool.

The optical illusion I chose was the cube because in the cube it looked like it had two cubes in it.

Summer Learning Journey | Art colouring book

This teaser task was called "Art colouring book". Art colouring book is an app where you can colour in a painting from an author's painting and the painting has to match a little bit.

First, I coloured in the two men and the water melon's. I started with colouring in these one's because it was in the front and it was the main part of the painting.

Afterwards, I did the background and in the background was the buildings and the colours for the buildings had specific colours too.

I enjoyed this app because I can learn and practise how to colour.

Commanding Conversations

Commanding Conversations is a can-do where people practise writing thier own conversations.

First, I wrote a conversation about a woman going to a mechanic to fix her motorbike.

Afterwards, I wrote a second conversation about three apes complaining about what they are going to have for lunch.

Commanding Conversations is good activity for me because I can practise writing conversations on my own.

Novel Study

Fantastic Mr Fox is about a fox who steals food from farms to keep him and his family alive. These last chapters 17 and 18 is about Mr Fox, Badger, and the smallest fox escaping Bean's secret cider and going to the feast.

Mr Fox, Badger, and the smallest fox escaped Bean's secret cider without getting caught by Mabel. When they escaped Badger, and the smallest fox paused for the moment because Mr Fox was replacing the loose brick back in place.

When they paused they had a conversation about Rat having bad manners, then Badger said that all Rats have bad manners. Badger said that he had never met a polite Rat before and he said that he drinks too much cider.

As they were running back to the feast, Mr Fox and Badger were singing rhymes about thier wives on how they were feeling with no food or drink.

As they got back they all ate and Badger stood up to make a speech and a toast to thank Mr Fox for getting food for them.

Fantastic Mr Fox is a book that is good for all ages.
