How to make a paper boat

Today I made a paper boat. I had to use any material to make a paper boat. Paper, newspapers, paper towls, cardboard paper, or coloured paper.

I used paper because I had no cardboard paper, and coloured paper. If I make a paper boat out of paper towls, then it won't float because it is light and it is a material that gets wet. I had newspapers but I didn't know where they were.

Here are some tips about a boat in a google drawing I made.

There are quite a lot of the SLJ activities I enjoyed. I don't really have a favourite but I did enjoy doing the Origami. Did you do that activity?

Keep up with your work also,

Happy New Year!

Molly :)

I forgot the Origami activity, but I'll have a look on the Summer Learning Journey website to see what I have missed.

Thanks for sharing that riddle with me, it's a really good one! I bet I would have struggled to figure it out if you hadn't of given me the answer. I'm gonna to try it with some of my friends.

Hope you're well,
Benjamin

Then I replied back Talofa Lava Benjamin

You know, my uncle is named Benjamin, but we call him Ben for short. Do your friends call you Ben for short sometimes?

Did your friends figure out the riddle or did you tell them? I actually didn't get that from youtube, I meant Netflix from a episode called little lunch the first episode. Don't tell your friends, otherwise, they will go and watch it until you tell them the riddle, then they would know the answer quickly.

That is so wonderful to hear! Being positive, thoughtful and helpful is so important for interacting online and I’m so pleased that you have incorporated this into your commenting too! Well done for keeping on top of the form as well.

Writing and art are such cool subjects! Also Harry Potter is one of my favourite book and movie series of all time, so I’m super stoked to hear that you would get awards for writing stories about it! That’s so special that your old teachers were so supportive and kind. Hufflepuffs are usually very kind aren’t they?

Thank you for your awesome replies and I hope you’ve had a great day.

Mā te wā,
Elle (SLJ)

I have watched all of the movie series of Harry Potter and my favourite house is Gryffindor. What is your favourite house.

I don't know how Hufflepuffs are kind but I Gryffindor think is more kinder then Hufflepuffs. I hate Slytherin because it has the baddies like Draco, the unknown name you know who, luscious, and all sorts of baddies.

I am having a very, very good day because I broke my world record of eating 6 jam toasts.

Your comment that you have done is amazing. You are really good at writing. My favourite subjects are maths and art. When I get comments I also reply back to them and use the form. How are you enjoying the SLJ so far? I like how you have added the draft and then also a screen shot.

Keep up the amazing blogging and commenting,

Molly :)

Thanks and as I said my kind teacher, Miss Kass, always chose me to have writing awards at the end of the term because she was a wonderful teacher and so was my friend, Mr cimmons.

I am enjoying the SLJ and the positive feedback they are commenting in my blog posts.

Are you enjoying the SLJ activities abd what was your favourite task out of all of the other tasks? My favourite one was the Art Colouring Book Gallery.

Keep up with your work on the Summer Learning Journey.

That is so awesome to hear that you enjoy the feedback and comments so much - we enjoy giving them! What is the most helpful or thoughtful piece of advice you’ve received so far?

That is so neat that you have “can do’s” once you’ve finished all of your tasks. What is your favourite subject? Mine was always writing because I liked poetry and making up stories.

Happy New Year Hector! Tau Hou hari!

The most helpful and thoughtful piece of advice I recieved was from all of you guys because you guys have been sending lots of positive and kind comments to me and I am about to do my 11th comment threading blog post. Every time I reply back to your guys's comments, I always sign the comment threading form so that I could get bonus points.

I have lost count on how many times I have been signing the form. My favourite subject was writing and art.

In Australia, my kind teacher, Miss Kass, gives me positive feedback on my writing and when it is the ned of term, I would always get writing awards for writing my stories. My favourite one, was about "Harry Potter." A teacher came in to our class for 4 weeks. His name was Mr Cimmons, he and I loved the "Harry Potter" seires and pro wrestling. He said that he was a magic teacher in Hufflepuff. When he left he promised me he woukd come back from my birthday, but then we moved in NZ.

Today Charlotte, from the SLJ team, commented on my blog post about sundial from Nanogril's Lab.

Charlotte said Mōrena Hector,

It’s Charlotte here, a commenter for the Manaiakalani Summer Learning Journey. You have done some amazing work on the ‘Nanogirl Sundial’ task!

I think that it is pretty amazing how we can make something like a sundial out of things like cardboard! What did you think of this task? I really like the Nanogirl tasks because I think Science is so fascinating!

I liked how this activity had a lot to do with the outdoors! I think that spending time in the outdoors is so much fun! I like to go swimming at the beach and also enjoy going on walks outside! What do you like to do outside?

This sundial task was amazing. I didn't know what a sundial was until I watched Nanogirl's activity yesterday and I think Science is so fascinating too because of all of the experiments that you can do.

I like swimming in pools rather than swim at the beach because there are no showers there and the pool is yuck, green, salty, and cold. So thats why I would rather swim at pools instead of beaches. Like Shakespear beach, the water was salty and there was mushed up sand that smelt like rotten eggs.

I like to go on adventures outside because you can go through forests and in the forests there are native animals or insects or creatures that you could have a look at. Just like Bear Grylls, he is a trained professional at going to dangerous adventures.

When I grow up, I wanna be like Bear Grylls and experince all native animals or insects or creatures, but you need to take lots and lots of trainging before you do the real stuff.

What did you wanna be when you grew up and why?

Digital Sundial | SLJ

Today Nanogirl has set up a task where you had to make your own sundial. A sundial is a type of clock but it uses a triangle instead of hands. The equipment you need are cardboard, pencil, blue tack, string, scissors, tape and a ruler.

When you put a sundial in the sun, the shadow of the triangle starts to move on the clock, just like a real clock.

I didn't have the write equipment because I didn't have cardboard, tape, blue tack, and string so I had to make it digital on a google drawing. I don't understand how why sundials is a type of clock but I think it uses time in a ancient way.

Today Charlotte, from the SLJ team, commented on my blog post about my Rise Up Song.

Charlotte said Kia Ora Hector,

It’s Charlotte here, a commenter for the Manaiakalani Summer Learning Journey. I thought the work you have done on the ‘Rise Up’ task was great!

I think that song writing is such an amazing talent! The kids from Mangere College did such a great job making this song. What did you think of this song?

I also think that songs that rhyme are awesome! What made you choose Corona as the topic of your song?

If you want to get even more points for the Summer Learning Journey, you can give the ‘Step it up’ challenge for this activity a go! You can find this using this link, This requires you to create a screen castify of you speaking/singing the chorus you created.

Then I replied back Talofa Lava Charlotte

Thanks for the comment and this task reminded me of the Corona song from the Manaikalani film festival where a student from Tamaki College sang stay at home that is why I chose the topic about Corona.

When I watched Mangere College's song that gave me an idea of a cool song. After that, I went on the Manaikalani website to see Tamaki College's song. When I watched the song over and over again, that gave me an idea of the Corona song.

I don't know why I chose to put in "It's just like Benjamin Franklin Inventing electricity" because it doesn't actually match the rest of the words, but I think I put it there just for it make to rhyme.

Next time I would start the step it up challenge.

Ben here from the SLJ commenting team.

I hope you had a nice weekend. You’ve nailed this activity, ka rawe!

The challenge you created made me really hungry haha! Those cookies look tino reka!

I spotted a few differences:
A - A cup of milk
B - Gingerbread instead of cookies
C - Chocolate chip cookies unlike the others
D - Cookies with cocoa in them I presume

Keep up the good work e hoa!

Mā te wā

Cheers,
Ben

Then I replied Talofa Lava Benjamin

Thanks for the comment you gave me and I had figured out all of the slides. It was pretty hard to find the differences like the games on electronic devices or in magazines. For example Spot the difference.

The last photo, D, was rotten cookies but the guess tht you came up with was a very good education guess.

This activity was a little bit complcated but luckily I watch riddles on youtube so I would definetly nail this activty. For example : What stays in a corner but goes to other country's? A stamp because it stays at a corner if an enelope but goes to ither country's.

Ka keti ano. HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hector

Which Face Is Real

Today the SLJ team set up a task called which face is real. This app allows you to figure out which face is real or fake. Just like the game called spot the difference.

I figured out 8 faces correctly and 2 faces wrong. We had to make it up to ten if they pick a bigger number, we will just be clicking our touchpad all day without blogging or getting comments.

I screenshot one of the faces I did and I had to find the differences on why they are real or fake. I did a little explination on what I've spotted because if I just put arrows then no one would understand about the photos.
