Table Tennis

We did a range of activities based on Table Tennis.

First, we practised doing the forehand. This skill was basicly acting like your hand and placing my index finger on the other side of the racket.

Next, I practised bouncing a ball on the racket using the forehand skill. The bounces I got in total was 35.

After, I practised bouncing the ball but using the backhand. This skill was basicly in the same position but at chest height.

Lastly, I did a drop serve. A drop serve is using the forehand technique but placing it in the position where your belly is. Then I bounced the ball once and hit the ball over the net.

This activity was fun because I learnt the basic skills of Table Tennis.

Questions

I revised questions from this term.

First, I wrote who are my friends, who are my teachers, and who are my parents.

Next, I revised Tēnei, Tēnā, Tērā.

Lastly, we played memory with a bunch of real cards that we had to match and name in Maori

I enjoyed this task because I increased my knowledge of Maori words.

Table Mat Information

I used skimming and scanning on a text called Killer Quakes.

Ths text was about earthquakes that have killed people in the past. This text also shows information about a Sesimograph.

First, we used skimming and scanning to apply the information in our table mat. Skimming is flying over the text to find the keywords. Scanning is being like a helicopter and hover over the specific information that is important.

Then, I put my results onto a table mat. I put all my facts from the book in chronological order. I used scanning to search for my information because I had to think with my group and agree with the information we had.

I enjoyed this task beause we continued with previous lessons from the past couple of weeks.

How long does it take to recycle paper?

I used three reading stratigies to create a timeline about how long does it take to recycle paper.

First, I used the reading stratigies skimming and scanning to search for my information. After I searched for my information, I put together my information in chronological order.

After, I created my timeline. My main points was recycled, recovery centre, the paper mill, and the product. Then I wrote extra information for the main points.

I enjoyed this task because I used skimming and scanning to find my specific information.

Measurement-Length

I learnt about measuring length.

First, I had to figure out what does the length equal, the abbreviation, and extra information. For example: Millimeters: 10 millimeters = 1 centimeter. The abbreviation for this word is MM. Did you know that millimeters is about as thick as an American dime?

After, I had to estimate an object and then actually measure it with a ruler.

This activity was interesting because I learnt about length units and non length units.

Balancing | Frisbe activites

We did a range of activites based on using a frisbe.

First, we practised throwing the frisbee sideways. Our right leg was facing forward and our left leg was backwords. Then, we threw the frisbee slowley and after we released the frisbe, our hand was facing to our target. This means that we were accurate enough to through the frisbe to our partner.

Next, we practised fetch. One person was throwing and one person was acting like a dog. The main point of this activity was about stopping our body when we catch the frisbee.

Afterwards, we did the same process as the dog activity but we had to throw it at a goal. The main point of this activity was about to catch the frisbee and get in the right position to throw the frisbe in the goal.

Lastly, we played netball but using a frisbee.

The netball activity was hard because people were calling out and shouting and I was confused who to pass it to.

Asking Qestions

I continued translating questions and answers in Maori.

First, we revised the questions. "Kei hea te aporo? Kei roto i te peke."

After, I copied and pasted the questiosn from my google document to a google slides and add pictures for proof.

This activity was easy because I finished my task on time.

Party Popper

We planned about creating a party popper.

First, we figured out the parts. The parts for our product were the cup, confetti, toothpick, paper, and the elastic band.

Next, we did the current design. The current design means what is the job. Cup: this holds the confietti, confetti: explodes out of cup, toothpick: holds the elastic band, paper: shoots up the cup to make the confetti explode, and elastic band: helps the paper shoot up to the cup.

After, we figured out the the updates. The new updates were the paper cup, drawing the outside as skittles design, add more confetti, and leaving the rest of the materials as the same.

Lastly, we did the rational. This means why we are changing this item or not changing it.

This activity was hard because we kept on getting the same feedback.

Basic Facts Boxes

I completed the speed up demon challenge up to 10.

First, I opened my online timer and my basic facts boxes sheet. The sheet I did was addition.

After, I recorded my results and put it on a google slides. My results were I got 100/100 and my time was (3 minutes and 9 seconds).

Next time I should try a harder challenge and get a better time like (2 minutes and 56 seconds).

SSR Selfie | The Beginner's Bible

I read The Beginner's Bible Book up to three chapters.

The first chapter I read was the Ten Commandements. These commandements were God is the only true God, never make idols, never missue the lords name, rest on the sabbath day keep it holy, honour your father and your mother, do not murder, husbands and wives must not comit adultery, do not steal, do not tell lies, and never want what belongs to others.

The next chapter I read was the Twelve Spies. This chapter was about the Isralites going to a promised land and Moses sent spies to go and see if the beautiful land was full of plenty of food.

The last chapter I read was Samoson. This chapter was about a storng man who did not want to cut his hair. The reason of that because his strength was in his hair.

I liked the first chapter I read because it shows what to do and what not to do.

Values

In partnership with our community our values are condensed down to CARE.

Confidence
We have confidence to take risks with our learning and to share our learning with others, we are focused on our futures.

Attitude
We show a positive attitude to our learning by making good choices and we participate in all opportunities.

Respect
We are tolerant and respectful of all the people in our community and take care of our enviorment.

Excellence and Innovation
We set ourselves challenging goals, share ideas, and think about our learning.

During HPE, Group B were not able to follow the rules because everyone was mucking around and doing the opposite.

Flip, Slide, and Turn

There three different types of movements. They are flip, slide, and turn.

Flip means to create a mirror image.

Slide means to change direction but same position.

Turn means to turn in multiple directions.

Questions

We revised some previous questions from the past couple of weeks.

First, we revised maui, matau, and waenganui. Maui means left, matau means right, and waenganui means in the middle.

Next, we revised some questions. For example: "Kei hea te aporo? Kei roto i te peke." This means where is the apple, it is inside the bag.

These questions were easy because when Whaea Odie called out the questions, I answered straight away.

Explanaition Topic Planner

I planned two different types of topics. In the two topics I did, I had to add mechanisms, cause and effect sentences, and information sources.

First, I did a topic called How a bike works. The mechanims for this topic were Pedals and chain, Wheel and axle, Frame, Brakes, and Handlebars.

After, I did another topic called Life Cycle of a Chicken. The mechanisms for this topic were Mama Chicken, Egg, Chick, Young Chick, and Adult Chicken.

This activity was hard because I couldn't find the information on Google that I needed.

Table Mat Information

We used skimming and scanning based on a text.

First, we read the text and this text was called The Piece of Paper Path. This text was about recycling paper and what kind of mechanics they use to make paper. We used skimming and scanning to read this text. Skimming means to rush through the text and look for the main keywords. Scanning means to stop and focus on the information your reading.

After, we put our results on a table mat. We had to define keywords and attribute images to where we got the image from.

Lastly, we wrote some questions that I would have asked and the key questions. The key questions mean what would the author would have thought about before publishing the book.

This activity was easy because we used skimming and scanning to understand the main text.

PB4L | Following the rules

Following the rules is important because it is respectful to everyone.

Following the rules includes listening to the instructions that you are given. For example: to be silent with our mouths or keep our hands to ourselves.

If people don't follow the rules then it will be disrespectful to others.

Next time, I need to follow the "NO talking rule."

Balancing Challenge

We made our own challenge based on balancing.

First, we planned out what challenge we were doing. Our plan was to stand on one leg and swing our arms back and forth while holding the bottle.

Next, we tested out our challenge by avoiding our tipping point while making the bottles touch each other.

Lastly, we took a photo and recorded our results and we made our poster.

This activity was easy because when we planned our challenge we thought of it straight away.

Questions

I learnt how to say questions.

First, we revised what below, above, left, right, middle, out, in, front, and behind. Below is raro, above is runga, middle is waenganui, right is matau,  left is maui, out is waho, in is roto, front is mua, and behind is muri.

After, we learnt how to say questions. Kei hea te waka ma? Kei muri i te waka whero.

This activity was easy because I pronounciate the sentence properly.

Balancing

We did a range of activites using sports equipment based on balancing.

First, we used the volleyball equipment. We balanced on one leg and doing a set and a dig. We also had to press our leg a little bit while we do these teqnuiques.

This activity was hard because I couldn't control myself.
Next, we used the tennis equipment. We passed the tennis racket sideways and hitting the tennis ball across the body.

This activity was a bit hard because I wasn't able to control my tipping point.
Then, we used the hockey equipment. We had to stand sideways and hit the ball by using the hockey stick slowley.

This activity was easy because I was able to control my tipping point.
After, we used the egg and spoon activity. We had to stand on one leg and trying to make the egg and spoon touch the ground. We also had to try and go back up.

This activity was hard because I used too much power when I was going up.
Lastly, we used the football equipment. We had to try and balance the ball on our head and we also had to hit the ball to our knee multiple times.

This activity was hard because I couldn't control the ball and my power was a bit weak.

Prepositions

I learnt how to say prepositions.

First, I learnt prepositions. "Kei runga ki te kutikuti". This means - Above the scissors.

After, I learnt maui and matou. Maui means (left) and matou means (right)

Next time, I need to practice my maui and matou because I go the wrong direction.

Mechanisms

We learnt how to write an explanation using mechanisms.

First, we wrote a mechanism for how chocolate is made. When the ingredients are combined and melted, they make a liquid. If you use a mold to shape the liquid.  You then cool it so it will set.

Then we wrote a mechanism for how fireworks work. Gunpowder is packed in a very tiny space as a result it burns really fast. Potassium is the most important part of gunpowder. This is propels the fireworks into the sky.

Next time, I should work on my mechanisms.

Reciprocal Reading

We did reciprocal reading based on two PDF's called What we lost and Where we lived.

First, we did the five roles of reciprocal reading. They are: leader, predictor, clarifier, questioner, and summariser. The PDF we read was about What we lost. This text was about soldiers losing their lives, and many were killed or injured. After the war things did not return to how they had been before.

The most helpful role was the leader because the leader organized all the roles of the group.

Next, we did a PDF about where we lived. This text was about People raised money to support their soldiers and sent things to wear. This text was also about that people used cholera belts to protect themselves from the cold damp.

The most helpful role was the questioner because it unpacked lots of questions that we couldn't understand during the text.

Next time, I should find more interesting words.
