Problem Solving

Today I used place value to figure out a maths equation.

First, I started with the ones. 7 + 4 = 11.

Next, I started with the tens. 20 + 20  = 40.

Then, I combined the two answers. 40 + 11 = 51, but the story problem said how much more Otai does Sela and Amanaki need to make to get 60 serves to open up their stands.

Lastly, I had to figure out how many more to get to 60. So I had to do 60 - 51 to equal 9. So 51 + 9 = 60.

I had a little trouble at the start until the answers were released and I understood that their were two steps to figure out the equations.

  1. Malo e lelei Hector, sai 'aupito! Well done! You have explained the problem solving process well and I especially appreciated your honest reflection. How much practice did Leilani need to do?

Thanks for the positive feedback. This equation I quite didn't understand but I learnt from others who did. Leilani needs to do another 23 minutes of practise.

    Kind Regards

    Hector
