SSR Selfie | Kaitiakitanga

I read a non-fiction book called Kaitiakitanga the Life of Aotearoa page by Matt Boucher.

First, I looked for the page I needed to read which was page 25-26. The main topic was Life of Aotearoa.

  1. When the first Maori glazed into Aotearoa’s forest filled land, they couldn’t have predicted what lay beyond the trees.

  2. Imagine walking through a dense forest. Tall trees keep you in shade while green ferns uncurl around you.

  3. Aotearoa New Zealand has one of the highest population endemic species of any country in the world.

I enjoyed reading this book because I learnt the a (very) brief history of Aotearoa

Writers Passport Presentation

I created a presentation about Sentence Endings, and Sentence Types.

First, I read the Sentence Endings page. Sentence Endings are symbols called punctuation that are put at the end of sentences or in the middle of sentences. For example: Commas are used within sentences.

Next, I read the Sentence Types page. There are three different topics of sentence types. Simple, Compound, and Complex. Simple Sentences are about one piece of information. Compound Sentences are two or more simple sentences. Complex Sentences have two or more ideas.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt different things about both of these topics.

Maths | Parts and Leftovers and What do they know

I completed a 2 maths topics about Parts and Leftovers and What do they know.

First, I did parts and leftovers. The question was about two boys thinking of a problem. There are three slices of a pizza left. Each slice is not equal. Altogether they add up to 1  1/2 pizzas. What fraction may each piece be? Robbie says there could be between 5 and 10 and James disagrees and says there are mutliple solutions.

Next, I did what do they know. The question was about Marie's large family spent $392 on groceries for the past two weeks. The supermarket docket shows that $176 was spent this week. What was last week's grocery bill? Each family showed how they can figure out the grocery bill. Two weeks later the cost of the groceries were simallar. $213 was spent in the first week and 389 in both weeks.

I enjoyed this activty because this helps me improve with my maths skills and what I can and what I can't do.

Homework Book Year 6 | Unit 3 Our Cultural Festival

I completed unit 3 of Homework Book Year 6.

First, I answerd some questions. Why do you think that there are now more cultures included in a New Zealand school's cultural festival? Do you think this diversity adds value to New Zealand society? What do you think the cultures represented in the programme might have in common with each other?

Next, I did word power. I had to underline the right onomatopoeia. For example: Bang! The car door slammed shut.

Then, I did a couple of other tasks and moved on to something more activity. I had to figure out the scrambled word and match it with the definition. For example: elami - Sends messages electronicly/ EMail

I enjoyed doing this acitivty because this helps me understand everything about our cultural festival.

Anywords | Hector vs Mum

I versed my Mum into a game of anywords and she didn’t understand how the game worked. We both tied up and then she gave up so I won!

Fact Find

I did a fact find about the CEO of Tesla and CEO/Lead desgner of SpaceX.

First, I did an introduction about Elon Musk. I introduced his name, who he is, and where he lives and added a creative common image of Elon Musk.

Next, I put down 5 different facts. I started each fact with a Did you know... and wrote down the fact on a website I found.

Then, I attributed the the image I found on google by putting the image link, who is the author, and the usage rights based on that image.

Lastly, I put down the information sources which was the facts about Elon Musk Website.

I enjoyed doing this activity because it helped me understand who Elon Musk is and what he does for a living,

Fairy Tale

I finally finished my fractured fairy tale.

First Week 1, I did three SSR Selfies based on three fairy tales. The fairy tales were Little Red Riding Hood, Maui and the Sun, and Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Next Week 2, I did a story arch. I had to do the orientation, inciting incident, rising action problems, climax, success or failure, and resolution.

Then Week 3, I split my three fairy tales into a table and put down 4 categories. They are Characters, Settings, Problem, and Solution.

Then Week 4, I did my planning. My story was mixed with WWE, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Harry Potter.

Lastly Week 6, I did my draft and my real story.

I enjoyed doing this activity because this helps my skills improve for literacy.

Comment Thread

I completed a task called Comment Thread. A comment thread is having a conversation with someone else by commenting with positivie feedback and talking about the learning.

One of my classmates in my school commented on my blog post called Mobile Puzzle. During a comment thread, you need to have a greeting, a compliment, and a question to ask.

Here is an example for comment thread.

SSR Selfie | School Journal May 2020

I read a book called School Journal May 2020 made by Paul Mason.

First, I read the first chapter about The Longest Walk in NZ. The main topic was The Longest Walk.

  1. A family called The Rapsey family has been walking for three months and one day. They’re following a route called Te Araroa.

  2. Most night, they camp in their tent and sometimes they stay in tramping huts.

  3. Occasionally they shower in a campground.

I did not enjoy reading this book because this reminded me of when I walked 10 KM two weeks ago and I had heaps of cramps on my legs and feet.

Mobile Puzzle

I created a mobile puzzle. A mobile puzzle has shapes and you need to figure out what the shapes are worth to create the number at the top.

First, I thought of a number that would be at the top of the mobile. The number I chose was 800.

Next, I colour coded the shapes which was 2x squares and 1x triangle and put numbers in the equal 800. Triange = 400 and Square = 200.

This activity was easy because all I had to do was to equal the 800 in those three shapes.

Homework Book Year 6 | Unit 1 Fascinating Felines

I completed unit 1 of Homework Book Year 6.

First, I answerd some questions. The questions were: Which cat would you prefer to own? Why? What is a feline?

Next, I did word power. I read the defenition of the word and matched it with the words starting with the letter C. For example: A larva which turns into a butterfly - Caterpillar.

Then, I did a couple of other tasks and moved on to something more activity. I had to draw something a kitten would play with and I drew one of those knitting balls.

I enjoyed doing this acitivty because this helps me understand everything about Fascinating Felines.

SSR Selfie | Ant-Man

I read a fiction book about a book called Ant-Man made by Alex Irvine.

First, I read about the first couple of pages before the beginning of the first chapter. The main characters were Hank Pym, Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, and Mitchell Carson.

Hank Pym entered the S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters and sitting in the meeting room was Peggy, Howard, and Mitchell. Pym was supposed to be in Moscow, but he got to the table and slapped down a steel and glass vial containing a red fluid. Pym is a soldier but he said to Carson that he was a scientist. Hank pym couldn’t believe while they were conversing, and said “First you turn me into your errand boy and now you want to steal my formula!” Carson replied “If only you’d protected Janet with such ferocity. Hank punched Carson in the face, He said “You mention my wife again and I’ll show you ferocity.

My favourite character is Hank Pym because during the books and the movies, he speaks specificly on the systems and other things.

Jack and The Beanstalk | Draft

I created a rough draft of my fractured fairy tale.

First, I looked on my plan I created last week and changed a few things because I changed the a little too much. The things I changed were the characters and a few settings.

Fractions

I did a maths activity where I identified improper fractions.

First, I wrote down the fraction in words. For example: four thirds.

Next, I wrote down the fraction in numbers. For example: 4/3

Then, I took a screenshot of the fraction and four thirds in pizza slices.

Lastly, I wrote an explanaition. For example: All pizzas were cut into 3 pieces each (thirds). Two pieces have gone. There are 4 thirds left.

This activity was kind of hard because I didn't understand the pizza slices.
