Metaphors

Metaphors is a comparison of two things with a similar quality by saying one object is the other.

For example "That boy is a thorn in my side". The main object is the boy. The comparison is the thorn. The meaning is the boy is annoying.

Another example "That boy has ants in his pants". The main object is the boy. The boy is being compared to ants. The meaning is the boy can't be still.

Multiplication and Word problems

Multipliation is a faster way to add the same number over and over again.
To identify a multiplication word problem. Follow these moves.

GROUP SIZE: the group size is the number of things in a group.
NUMBER OF GROUPS: how many groups there are.

Melanie worked for 3 hours and 5 days. How many hours did she work in total?

1. First you look for the group size and the group size are number 3.
2. Next you look for the number of things in the group and the number of things in a group are number 5

Multiplication

Multiplication is a faster way to count the same number. For example 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 is counting four 5 times, so 4 x 5 = 20.

Similes

Similes are a comparison of two things using "like" or "as...as".

Similes with "as" use adjectives. For example, "as blind as a bat," and "as flat as a pattie".

Similes with "like" use verbs. For example, "act like an animal," and "soar like an eagle".

Venn Diagram

A venn diagram shows the differences and similarities between two things.

A book called The Dippy Dinner Drippers Family were messy eaters. Space Food is about kids trying to find methods on how to make food not rot.

One similarites with both of the books are that they both talk about food, and they are both narratives.

The difference is that Space Food is kids are figuring out how to stop food rotting but The Dippy Dinner Drippers Family is about a family who are messy eaters.

Similarites can help us figure out what is the same and what is not.

Swimming T3W3

Today I went to swimming. I learnt new swimming skills.

The first skill I learnt was streamline kicking. Streamline kicking is where I made sure to keep my kickborad straight in the air, Then I had to make sure that my whole face is in the water, and lastly I had to make sure that my legs are straight.

The second skill I learnt was backstroke. A backstroke is where I had to hold the kickboard on my lap and above my knees. On back kicking, I made sure my face was out of water.

It is good to practise swimming because swimming is a sport and sports make you fit.
