Kupe and Captain James Cook

Kupe and Captain James cook are 2 important explorers in NZ history.

Kupe arrived in NZ in the 1100's. He travelled by traditional methods on a traditional sail boat. Myth has it he followed a giant octopus. He did this voyage to find new land for his people to live. His wife named NZ Aotearoa after seeing mountins under the clouds.

Captain James Cook arrived to NZ on 6th of October in 1769. He travelled to NZ on a boat called the Endeavour. He came to NZ because he mapped NZ and he wanted to document mountains.

Kupe is important because he was the first documented person in NZ. Captain James Cook is important because he mapped NZ and opend it up to the world to world to access.
